When funds are held
Understanding payment holds and escrow.
Understanding how Yellow Jersey protects purchases.
Why funds are held
- Gives buyers time to check their order
- Gives buyers time to raise a problem before the seller is paid
- Enables dispute resolution
- Creates trust in the marketplace
How it works
- Buyer makes payment
- Yellow Jersey holds the money
- Seller ships item
- Buyer confirms it arrived
- Funds released to seller
Hold duration
Standard release
- When the buyer confirms it arrived, or
- 7 days after payment (auto-release), even if the order hasn't arrived
Extended hold
- If there's an open claim on the order, or the payment is disputed with the card issuer
- Funds stay held until it's resolved
For buyers
- Your payment is held while you wait for your order
- Get help from your order if something's wrong
- Released when you confirm it arrived, or 7 days after you paid
For sellers
- Paid when the buyer confirms it arrived, or 7 days after they paid
- Clear timeline for payment
- If a buyer is refunded after you're paid, your share of the refund is taken back
Dispute impact
- Funds remain held during open claims and card disputes
- Released based on resolution
- Either to seller or refunded to buyer
