Overview

Ideal for families who want a discreet, lightweight way to help a child up climbs on paths while keeping the rest of the ride independent.

The ZEFAL Bike Taxi is a lightweight, compact way to extend family rides when a climb becomes too demanding. At just 140 g, it stays under the towing bike’s saddle and is ready when needed, while the 2 m self-retracting rope keeps the bikes separated without leaving loose cable dragging between them.

Installation is tool-free and designed for all standard saddle rails. When both bikes are stationary, the loop attaches between or beneath the two clamping screws on the towed bike’s Aheadset stem; once the climb is complete, it can be released and the rope winds back into its housing. Real-world use shows that children can learn to attach and detach the loop themselves, although the initial saddle fitting can take a little care.

This is a practical choice for family paths and gentler off-road rides, particularly when the towing rider is using an e-bike. The 95 kg maximum combined load and 10 km/h maximum speed are important limits, and the rope must be disconnected before descending. Set off smoothly, keep the rope taut and avoid tight turns for a controlled, confidence-building tow.

The Bike Taxi is intended for adult-supervised use on paths only, helping a child aged five or over through climbs while they continue riding independently on flats and descents. It is a tidy, reusable alternative to carrying a tired bike or cutting a promising family route short.

Self-retracting 2 m rope

The rope returns into its housing after use, keeping the setup compact and reducing loose cable around the bikes.

Lightweight under-saddle design

At 140 g, it remains discreet beneath the towing bike’s saddle and can stay fitted throughout the ride.

Tool-free installation

Mount it between the towing bike’s saddle rails without tools, then keep it ready for the next climb.

Quick stem attachment

The loop connects to the towed bike’s Aheadset stem between or beneath the two clamping screws when both bikes are stationary.

High-density polyethylene rope

The rope uses abrasion-resistant high-density polyethylene fibre for dependable use on tow climbs.

Suitable for e-bike towing

The adult towing rider can use an e-bike, making longer or hillier family routes more accessible.

Controlled family-use limits

The 95 kg combined child-and-bike limit, 10 km/h maximum speed and adult supervision requirement provide clear operating boundaries.
