Start with a clean chain, because this is a wax lube. For the best self-cleaning result, do not mix it with oil based lubricants. The dirtier the ride, the more the wax sheds, so reapply more often after grubby rides. Used regularly, White Lightning says you will rarely need to clean the chain.
