Gravel and all-road riders on 700c wheels who mostly ride dry, packed surfaces and want a quick-rolling tyre.
The Vittoria Terreno Dry sits between a file tread and a full knobby tyre. Its angled fish scale centre roll quickly on hardpack, while the sharper edges give you grip under braking and through corners.
This is the 700 x 38c folding clincher in full black, made to run with an inner tube. The folding bead makes it easy to carry a spare and quicker to fit than a wire bead tyre.
It's at its best on dry gravel, fire roads and fast cyclocross courses, the sort of riding many of us do around Melbourne through summer and autumn.
Fish scale tread
Fast in the middle, grippy on the edges.
700 x 38c
A versatile gravel width that fits most gravel bikes.
Folding bead
Lighter to carry and easier to fit than a wire bead.
Full black
Clean look that suits any bike.
Tyre
Use
Fish scale tread
Angled, ramped scales down the centre roll fast in a straight line, while the sharper edges bite when you brake and lean into corners.
Great for
Maybe not for
700c (622 mm) rims. Check your frame and fork clear a 38 mm tyre with some room for mud. Use a 700c tube rated for around 35 to 43 mm widths.
Pressure
Start around the middle of the pressure range printed on the sidewall and drop a little at a time for comfort and grip on rough gravel. Too low with a tube invites pinch flats, so find the balance for your weight.
Fitting
The tread is directional. Check the rotation arrow on the sidewall before you mount it.
