Casual and recreational riders on mountain or hybrid bikes who want a softer seat without buying a new saddle.
If your saddle feels like a plank, a gel saddle cover is the easiest fix to try first. This one is sized for wider MTB-style saddles, the kind fitted to most mountain, hybrid and many kids' and teen bikes.
The top is stretch Lycra over a layer of gel padding, and a drawcord with a toggle underneath pulls it snug so it doesn't creep around while you ride. There are no tools involved and it comes off just as easily.
It's a great option for casual riders, commuters on short trips and anyone getting back on the bike after a break. For longer rides we'd still look at saddle shape and a good pair of padded shorts, but for comfort around town it makes a real difference.
Gel padding
Adds a softer layer over a firm saddle.
Stretch Lycra top
Smooth, snug fit over the saddle shape.
Drawcord fit
Cinches underneath so it stays put.
No tools
Fits and removes in seconds.
Cover
Great for
Maybe not for
Made for wider MTB-style saddles, listed at about 220 x 300 mm. Measure your saddle's width and length before buying. Not suited to slim road saddles or very wide cruiser seats.
Getting a snug fit
Stretch the nose over first, then pull the cover back over the tail and tighten the drawcord underneath. Tuck the cord and toggle away from the seatpost clamp so it can't rub or dangle.
Check your saddle height
A gel cover adds a little height. If your knees feel cramped or your hips rock afterwards, drop the seatpost a few millimetres.
