Owners of older road bikes, kids' geared bikes and simple 5-speed commuters that need a replacement freewheel.
This SunRace 5-speed screw-on freewheel combines the sprockets and ratchet mechanism in one unit that threads straight onto the rear hub. If your bike has five gears at the back and the cogs are worn, hooked or skipping, this is the like-for-like replacement.
The 14-28T range gives a small 14-tooth cog for cruising and a big 28-tooth cog that makes hills noticeably easier, which suits commuters, kids' bikes and older ten-speed road bikes. It is steel with a chrome finish for durability.
It needs a threaded freewheel hub, not a cassette freehub. When a freewheel wears it is worth checking the chain too, as a stretched chain will wear out new sprockets quickly.

Great for
Maybe not for
Check your rear hub is threaded for a freewheel and your shifter is 5-speed. A rear derailleur needs enough capacity for a 28-tooth largest cog; many older short-cage road derailleurs top out around 26 to 28 teeth.
Fitting
Grease the hub threads and spin the freewheel on by hand, then let your first few pedal strokes seat it. Removal needs the matching splined freewheel tool, so if yours is seized, bring the wheel in.
Replace the chain too
If the old freewheel was skipping, the chain is almost certainly stretched. A new chain at the same time saves the new cogs.
