A road rider using three-hole shoes and SPD-SL pedals who wants a direct, controlled connection with a small amount of float and improved walking grip.
The Shimano SM-SH12 is a pair of blue SPD-SL cleats for three-hole road cycling shoes and compatible SPD-SL pedals. Its front-centre pivot removes lateral sliding movement, while allowing a small amount of angular movement towards the heel. That gives you a more controlled connection than a freely floating cleat while retaining useful adjustment for natural foot movement.
With 2° total float—1° in each direction—these cleats are a practical choice for riders who prefer a precise, stable pedal feel without a completely fixed interface. The pedal system allows spring tension adjustment for clip-in and clip-out force, and the 12° clip-out angle helps you disengage quickly when stopping.
The injection-moulded composite body is paired with TPU grip tips for more secure off-bike footing. The cleat shape is designed to provide a stable walking platform and resist dirt clogging, while the coloured ground-contact points help protect the pedal-engaging section from walking wear. Installation uses a 4 mm hex wrench, with forward/back and left/right adjustment available for fine-tuning your position.
Front-centre pivot
The pivot position limits lateral sliding while allowing controlled angular movement towards the heel.
2° total float
One degree of movement in each direction provides a small amount of flexibility without a loose-feeling connection.
SPD-SL compatibility
Designed for SPD-SL pedals and three-hole SPD-SL shoe mounting patterns.
Adjustable pedal tension
Compatible pedals allow you to set the spring force required to clip in and out.
12° clip-out angle
Supports quick disengagement when you need to stop or put a foot down.
Walkable grip points
TPU tips and the cleat shape provide a more stable platform when walking off the bike.
Cleat protection
The coloured ground-contact points help reduce wear to the section that engages with the pedal.
