Triathletes, especially sprint and Olympic distance racers, who want fast transitions and a shoe that is comfortable without socks.
The Shimano TR5 (SH-TR501) is designed for short course triathlon. Everything about it is aimed at a faster transition: an extra-wide opening, a single T1-Quick strap and a large heel loop you can grab with wet hands.
Underneath is a glass fibre reinforced sole with a Shimano stiffness rating of 6, stiff enough to put power down while staying comfortable over a race distance. A seamless midsole keeps the stack height low for a stable feel on the pedals.
The breathable mesh upper vents well and dries quickly after the swim, and the soft liner is comfortable without socks. The sole takes standard three-bolt road cleats (sold separately). This pair is white, size EU 43.

Great for
Maybe not for
EU 43. Shimano road shoes tend to run close to true to size; if you're between sizes, try them on in store. Cleats are not included and must be three-bolt road cleats.
Practise the flying mount
Tri shoes are made to be clipped to the pedals in transition and pulled on while riding. Practise with elastic bands holding the heel loops level before race day.
Set your cleats before race week
Fit and ride your cleats a few times before the race. A small tweak to cleat angle on race morning can leave your knees sore by the run.
