Riders repairing or refreshing a hybrid, commuter or entry mountain bike with a triple chainring setup.
The Shimano Tourney FC-TY501 is a triple crankset built for hybrids, city bikes and entry level mountain bikes. The 48-38-28T rings give a big top gear for flat roads and a small ring for climbing.
It uses a square taper JIS spindle interface, the most common bottom bracket fitting on everyday bikes, and 170 mm arms, a good match for small to medium riders. A chainguard on the outer ring helps keep trousers clean.
Shimano designed it for smooth indexed shifting with 6, 7 and 8-speed drivetrains. It is a simple, like for like swap when an old crankset has worn or bent teeth.

Needs a square taper JIS bottom bracket of the right spindle length (not included) and a triple front derailleur. 170 mm arms.
Check the bottom bracket
Square taper cranks rely on the correct spindle length for a good chainline. If you are swapping from a different crankset, bring the bike in so we can check the spindle length and front derailleur position.
