Overview

Riders with a flat-bar bike and cable brakes who want a matched Shimano lever pair, whether it replaces a bent lever or is part of a SORA flat-bar setup.

This is the Shimano SORA BL-R3000, a right and left pair of brake levers for flat handlebars. Shimano designs the lever to work with the SL-R3000 shifter and to suit a wide range of cable brakes, which makes it a handy swap for a commuter, hybrid or flat-bar road bike.

The clamp fits a 22.2 mm bar, and reach adjust lets you set the blade closer to or further from the grip to suit your hands and how you ride. There is a cable adjuster for fine tuning, an internal bumper stop, and an anodised aluminium lever on a painted aluminium bracket.

Reach adjust

Set how far the lever sits from the grip to suit your hand size and how you ride.

Fits a wide range of brakes

Shimano lists V-brakes, road mechanical disc brakes, NEW SUPER SLR calipers and cantilever brakes as compatible.

A 22.2 mm clamp, a cable adjuster and an internal bumper stop.

Technology

Reach adjust

Sets the distance from the handlebar grip to the lever to suit any hand size, type of riding and rider preference.

NEW SUPER SLR

SLR stands for SHIMANO Linear Response. The NEW SUPER SLR design uses a friction-reducing mechanism in the caliper, lever and cable to improve response and modulation. This lever is listed for NEW SUPER SLR calipers.

Who it's for

Great for

  • Flat-bar commuter, hybrid and flat-bar road bikes with cable brakes
  • Replacing a bent or worn lever pair, or pairing with SL-R3000 shifters

Maybe not for

  • Drop-bar bikes, because these are flat-bar levers
  • Hydraulic disc brakes, because these are cable levers

Fits 22.2 mm flat handlebars. Reach adjust suits smaller and larger hands, and the lever blade is Shimano's 2.5-finger size.

Worth knowing

Match the lever to the brake

Shimano lists V-brakes, road mechanical disc brakes, NEW SUPER SLR calipers and cantilever brakes for this lever, and does not list roller brakes or SUPER SLR calipers. Shimano's compatibility chart also marks some lever and brake pairings as combinations that should not be used under any circumstances, so check your brake against the chart before you fit the levers. Then set the reach and the cable adjuster so both levers feel the same.
