Riders replacing a worn or damaged 160 mm rotor on a 6-bolt hub, on a bike with resin pad disc brakes.
The SM-RT56 is Shimano's 6-bolt disc brake rotor for standard 6-bolt hubs. Shimano says it delivers consistent stopping power in all riding conditions, and lists it in 160 mm and 180 mm sizes. This one is the 160 mm size, in polished stainless steel at a standard 1.75 mm thickness.
Shimano points to a new tightening plate construction for quick, secure installation, and designs the rotor for resin pads only. Rotation arrows are printed on the rotor so it goes on the right way round, and it is marked with a 1.5 mm minimum thickness so you know when it is time to replace it.
6-bolt mounting
Bolts to a standard 6-bolt hub, with a 44 mm bolt circle (P.C.D.).
Tightening plate
Shimano's tightening plate construction makes for quick and secure set up.
Resin pads only
Made for resin pads, and suits both narrow and wide pad lining shapes.
Polished stainless steel

Fit
Build
Great for
Maybe not for
160 mm only. Fit it if your frame or fork and caliper are set up for a 160 mm rotor. Shimano also lists the SM-RT56 in 180 mm, which needs mounts set up for the bigger size or a matching mount adapter. Confirm your hub is 6-bolt, not Centre Lock.
Right way round, then burn it in
Shimano prints rotation arrows on the rotor, so fit it with the arrows matching the wheel's direction of rotation. After fitting, Shimano's manual says to burn the brakes in: ride at a moderate speed and slow to walking pace with one brake at a time, at least 20 times per brake. Replace the rotor if it is cracked, deformed or 1.5 mm thick or less, and keep oil and grease off the rotor and pads.
