Road and gravel riders with Centre Lock hubs who want a cooler-running, quality 140 mm rotor.
The Shimano SM-RT70 is a Centre Lock disc rotor from the SLX family, widely used on both mountain and road bikes. This is the 140 mm version, the most common rear rotor size on disc road and gravel bikes.
Its braking track uses Shimano's Ice Technologies construction, an aluminium core clad in stainless steel. Aluminium sheds heat far faster than steel, so the rotor runs cooler under long or repeated braking, which means more consistent feel and less fade.
Centre Lock makes fitting quick: the rotor slides onto the splined hub and is held with a single lockring, with no six-bolt pattern to torque up.

Rotor
Ice Technologies
A three-layer braking surface with an aluminium core sandwiched between stainless steel, which draws heat away from the braking track so the brake stays consistent on long descents.
Centre Lock
Shimano's splined mount that fits the rotor to the hub with a single lockring instead of six bolts.
Great for
Maybe not for
Fits Centre Lock hubs. Your frame or fork and brake mount must be set up for a 140 mm rotor. Through-axle hubs may need an external-spline lockring rather than the standard one.
Lockring check
Most quick release hubs use the standard internal-spline lockring. Many 12 mm through-axle hubs need the external-spline type because the axle blocks the usual tool. Check which you have before you ride off with the wheel apart.
Bed in new rotors
After fitting, do ten or so firm stops from moderate speed without locking the wheel. It lays pad material onto the rotor and gives you full power and quieter brakes.
