Commuters, tourers and riders new to clipless who want the option of riding in normal shoes.
The Shimano PD-M324 combines an SPD clipless mechanism with a flat platform on the reverse side. It gives you the efficiency of clipping in when you want it and the freedom to ride in everyday shoes when you don't.
Entry and release tension is adjustable, so beginners can set it light while they learn. The mechanism is sealed and the cup and cone bearings are serviceable, so they'll keep turning smoothly for years.
They come with SM-SH56 multi-release cleats, which let you unclip by twisting or pulling up, a friendly choice when you're starting out. The pair weighs 533 g.

SPD
Shimano's two bolt clipless system, used on mountain, touring and commuting shoes with recessed cleats you can walk in.

Maybe not for
Uses 2-bolt SPD cleats, which fit mountain, touring and commuter shoes with a recessed cleat pocket. Standard 9/16 inch thread, fitted with a 15 mm pedal spanner or hex key.
Start light
Wind the tension down to the minimum while you're learning, and practise clipping out on grass or against a wall. The multi-release SH56 cleats let you twist or pull up to release.
Setting up cleats
Bolt the cleats under the ball of your foot, pointing straight ahead to start. If your knees feel twisted after a few rides, small adjustments help, and we're happy to help set them up.
