Riders on 8-speed road, hybrid or commuter bikes who want a genuine Shimano replacement with a versatile 11-28T range.
The Shimano Claris CS-HG50-8 is an 8-speed cassette with Shimano's HYPERGLIDE tooth profiles for smooth, reliable shifts. This version runs 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28T, keeping the jumps small through the middle of the block.
The sprockets are nickel plated steel for corrosion resistance and long life, and it's held on with a steel lockring. It's a straightforward, hard wearing choice when your old cassette is skipping or worn.
It suits any 8-speed Shimano road or flat bar drivetrain and fits a standard Shimano HG freehub body.

HYPERGLIDE
Shimano's shift ramps and tooth profiles guide the chain between sprockets for quick, smooth shifts, even under load.
Great for
Maybe not for
Fits a standard Shimano HG 8, 9 or 10-speed freehub body. On an 11-speed road freehub body you need a 1.85 mm spacer behind the cassette. Use an 8-speed compatible chain (Shimano HG 6/7/8-speed).
Cassette and chain together
If your chain is past its wear limit, a new cassette on an old chain will often skip. Check the chain with a wear gauge and replace both if needed.
Tools you need
You'll need a chain whip and a Shimano HG lockring tool to swap a cassette. Tighten the lockring to the torque printed on it, usually 30 to 50 Nm.
