Riders replacing or upgrading the front rim brake on a flat-bar trekking bike.
The BR-T4000 is Shimano's Alivio V-brake, designed for flat-bar trekking bikes where you want dependable, easy-to-service rim braking. This is the front unit, finished in silver, with a 107 mm arch size and Shimano S65T brake shoes as standard.
A linear spring keeps the arms returning cleanly, and the SM-PM40 power modulator gives a smoother, more controllable feel at the lever. Two spacer types, two fixing screw lengths (16 and 25 mm) and lead pipe angles of 45, 90 or 135 degrees let you set it up around your frame and cable routing.

107 mm arch size, for bikes with V-brake posts. This is the front unit in silver, and it needs a brake lever made for V-brakes.
Match the lever
V-brakes pull more cable than road brakes, so they need a long-pull brake lever, such as a standard flat-bar V-brake lever. A short-pull lever leaves the brake feeling weak. Brakes are a safety part, so have them fitted and adjusted by a qualified mechanic.
