Commuters, tourers and e-bike riders on 26 inch wheels who want the most puncture resistant tyre available.
The Schwalbe Marathon Plus is the tyre we reach for when a rider tells us they are sick of punctures. Under the tread sits SmartGuard, a 5 mm thick belt of elastic rubber that shrugs off glass, flints, wire and even drawing pins, the everyday rubbish that ends a commute early.
This is the 26 x 1.50 (40-559) size with a wire bead and Schwalbe's ADDIX compound. It weighs 870 g, is rated E-25 for e-bikes, and has a reflective stripe on both sidewalls so you are easier to see from the side after dark. The sidewall is also built to resist cracking for longer if you run it a little soft.
It is heavier than a normal touring tyre and the ride is firmer, but for commuters, tourers, shopping bikes and e-bikes the trade is well worth it. No tyre can promise you will never get a flat, but this is the best defence there is.

SmartGuard
A 5 mm thick layer of highly elastic special rubber under the tread, partly made from recycled latex. It is what earns the Marathon Plus Schwalbe's flat-less label.
Reflex sidewall
A reflective stripe on each sidewall that lights up in headlights for side-on visibility at night.
Anti-aging sidewall
A sidewall built to resist the cracking that comes from riding on low pressure for longer.
Great for
Maybe not for
Fits 559 mm bead seat diameter rims (26 inch). Takes a standard tube; sold as a single tyre.
Fitting tip
The thick SmartGuard layer makes the Marathon Plus stiff to fit. Push the bead into the centre channel of the rim all the way round before levering the last section on, and warm the tyre in the sun first if you can. We are happy to fit it for you.
Check pressure with a gauge
Schwalbe says the thumb test does not work on this tyre because the belt feels firm even when it is soft. Use a pump with a gauge and stay within 55 to 95 PSI.
