Riders on 29er hardtails, e-MTBs and trekking bikes who ride mixed surfaces and want puncture protection first.
The Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB is the flat-resistant Marathon Plus reworked for rougher ground. The central ribs roll easily on hard paths and bitumen, while strong outer lugs give traction when you head onto dirt, gravel and grass.
Under the tread is SmartGuard, the same thick puncture protection layer as the regular Marathon Plus. It carries the ECE-R75 mark and Schwalbe rates it E-50, so it is approved for fast e-bikes, and a reflective stripe keeps you visible at night.
This is the 29 x 2.10 (54-622) wire bead version. It is heavy for a mountain bike tyre, so think of it as a bombproof tyre for e-MTBs, trekking bikes, hardtail commuters and bikepacking rigs rather than a trail racing tyre.

Great for
Maybe not for
Fits 29 inch / 700C (622) rims. Check your frame, fork and any mudguards clear a 54 mm (2.10 inch) tyre. Use a 29 x 1.9 to 2.3 inner tube.
Pressure
Schwalbe lists 2 to 4.5 bar (30 to 65 psi) for this size. Run the lower end on dirt for grip and comfort, and firmer on bitumen or with a load. Use a gauge, as the thick protection makes the tyre feel harder than it is.
Fitting tip
Like every Marathon Plus, this one is tight to fit. Push the beads into the rim's centre channel all the way round, finish at the valve and avoid levering against the tube.
German tyre specialists.
Schwalbe is the tyre brand of Ralf Bohle GmbH, a family company based in Reichshof, Germany. It focuses on bicycle tyres and tubes, from everyday commuter rubber to race tyres.
The Marathon family is Schwalbe's best known touring and commuting range, and Schwalbe was the first tyre maker to offer products made with Fair Rubber, paying a premium to the small farmers who tap the rubber.
