E-bike commuters and tourers, including speed pedelec riders, who want the strongest puncture protection Schwalbe makes for touring tyres.
E-bikes carry more weight and hold higher speeds, and the Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus is built for exactly that. Its Smart DualGuard protection pairs the SmartGuard layer with two layers of RaceGuard fabric, for Schwalbe's level 7 puncture protection.
The ADDIX E compound was developed for e-bikes, holding grip at speed while wearing slowly. An extra fabric layer in the sidewall adds stability and load capacity, up to 121 kg per tyre, and ECE-R75 certification means it is approved for e-bikes of every class, rated E-50.
This 47-622 (28 x 1.75) size weighs about 1,150 g and runs at 3 to 5 bar (45 to 70 psi). The tread is deep enough for gravel paths on a tour, and a reflective stripe on each sidewall helps you be seen after dark.

Great for
Maybe not for
Fits 700C / 29 inch (622) rims. Match the 47-622 marking on your current tyre, and check your frame, fork and mudguards clear a 47 mm tyre. Use a 700 x 40 to 50C (or 28 x 1.5 to 1.75) tube.
Fitting a stiff tyre
Tyres with this much protection are firm to fit. Start opposite the valve, push the beads into the rim's centre channel as you go and finish at the valve. On hub motor bikes, note how the axle and cables come out before you remove the wheel.
Pressure for e-bikes
E-bikes are heavy, so do not run these too soft. Stay within 3 to 5 bar and go towards the top of the range if you carry panniers or a child seat. Check with a gauge, as a stiff tyre can feel harder than it is.

Schwalbe is the tyre brand of Ralf Bohle GmbH, a family company based in Reichshof, Germany. It focuses on bicycle tyres and tubes, from everyday commuter rubber to race tyres.
The Marathon family is Schwalbe's best known touring and commuting range, and Schwalbe was the first tyre maker to offer products made with Fair Rubber, paying a premium to the small farmers who tap the rubber.
