Trail and down-country riders on 29ers who want a fast-rolling tyre that still has real cornering grip.
The Maxxis Rekon is built to go fast in technical terrain. Ramped centre knobs roll quickly and brake securely, while aggressive side knobs hold on when you lean the bike into corners. It works across hard-packed to loose conditions.
This is the 29 x 2.40 WT (Wide Trail) size, shaped for modern rims around 35 mm internal. It pairs a 60 TPI folding casing with EXO sidewall protection and a hard-wearing dual compound, and it's tubeless ready. Maxxis quotes 891 g.
It's a popular choice front and rear for down-country and XC trail bikes, and as a fast rear tyre on bigger trail bikes.

Great for
Maybe not for
Fits 29 inch (622 mm) rims. Optimised for rims around 35 mm internal, and works well on 30 mm rims too. At 2.40 wide, check clearance on XC frames and forks.
Tubeless setup
Use tubeless rim tape, a tubeless valve and around 80 to 100 ml of sealant for a 29 x 2.40. Top the sealant up every few months, more often in hot weather.
Pressure
Tubeless riders often sit around 20 to 26 psi depending on weight and terrain. Stay under the 50 psi maximum.
