Overview

Road riders who want accurate dual-sided power data they can move between bikes, without spending top-tier money.

The Magene P715S puts a full dual-sided power meter into a Shimano SPD-SL compatible road pedal. Each pedal measures its own leg, so you get true left/right balance rather than an estimate, with a claimed accuracy of +/- 1%.

Magene builds the strain gauges into the stainless steel spindle, adds a gyroscope to track the pedal through every revolution, and compensates for temperature and altitude. Beyond power and cadence you also get power phase, seated vs standing power, torque effectiveness and smoothness, all over Bluetooth and ANT+, so they pair with Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift and most training apps.

The carbon composite bodies weigh 159 g each with a low 13 mm stack. Battery life is up to 120 hours, charging is magnetic, and they're rated IPX7 for wet winters. Because the power lives in the pedals, moving it between your road bike and your trainer bike takes a pedal spanner and a couple of minutes.

Technology

Spindle-embedded strain gauges

The power module sits in the spindle, right where you apply force, so there's less to go wrong between your foot and the measurement.

Gyroscope

Measures the crank's angular speed through every pedal stroke, keeping power accurate when your cadence is uneven, such as out of the saddle or on rough roads.

Temperature compensation

Adjusts for changes in temperature and altitude that affect strain gauges, so numbers stay consistent from a cold morning start to a hot afternoon climb.

Advanced cycling dynamics

Power phase, seated and standing power, left/right balance, torque effectiveness and pedal smoothness help you understand and improve your pedal stroke.

Who it's for

Great for

  • Road riders starting power-based training
  • Riders with more than one bike
  • Indoor and outdoor training
  • Checking left/right balance after injury

Maybe not for

  • Riders using Look Keo, Speedplay or SPD (MTB) cleats
  • Anyone wanting cleats in the box

These use Shimano SPD-SL cleats, which aren't included. Fit them with the supplied crank washers and a pedal spanner or hex key.

Worth knowing

Fitting tip

Use the supplied crank washers, tighten the pedals firmly, then pair them to your head unit and let them auto-zero before your first ride.

Cleats

Cleats aren't in the box. Any Shimano SPD-SL cleat works: yellow for more float, blue for a little, red for none.
