Home mechanics and riders bleeding or topping up DOT hydraulic brakes.
Liqui Moly DOT 5.1 is a synthetic, glycol-based brake fluid made for hydraulic systems that call for DOT fluid. On bikes, that means brands like SRAM and Avid, Hayes, Hope and older Formula brakes.
It has a dry boiling point above 260°C and a wet boiling point above 180°C, and it meets FMVSS 116 DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1. That extra heat tolerance helps keep the lever firm on long, steep descents.
The 250 ml bottle is plenty for several full bleeds. Keep the cap tight between uses, because DOT fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time.
DOT 5.1
High-temperature glycol-based brake fluid.
Over 260°C dry
Strong resistance to fade on long descents.
Backwards compatible
Meets DOT 3 and DOT 4 standards as well as DOT 5.1.

High boiling point
A dry boiling point above 260°C gives more headroom against fade on long descents than typical DOT 4 fluids.
Corrosion inhibitors
Additives protect metal brake parts and resist oxidation at high temperatures.
Great for
Maybe not for
Only use in brakes that specify DOT fluid. Check the brake caliper, lever or manual for DOT or mineral oil before bleeding.
Never mix DOT and mineral oil
DOT fluid will ruin the seals in a mineral oil brake, and the reverse is true too. If you are not sure what your brakes use, look for the marking on the lever or caliper, or ask us.
Protect your paint
DOT fluid strips paint and can damage some finishes. Keep rags handy, wipe up drips straight away and rinse with water. Wear gloves while bleeding.
