Any rider who looks after their own bike and wants to replace chains on time.
Chains wear with every ride, and a worn chain quickly chews through your cassette and chainrings. The KMC Chain Checker tells you when to replace it in a few seconds, no ruler needed.
It's a two-step tool: hook the Step 1 end onto a roller, then let the Step 2 end drop into the chain and read the 0.0 to 0.8 scale. The tool is clearly marked: under 0.8 is good, over 0.8 means replace.
Made from steel by one of the world's biggest chain makers, it's a small tool that pays for itself the first time it saves a cassette.
Quick check
Read chain wear in seconds.
Clear markings
Under 0.8 OK, over 0.8 replace.
Steel
Tough enough for years of workshop use.
Saves money
Replace the chain before it wears your cassette.
Tool
Great for
Maybe not for
Use on a clean chain for an accurate reading, and check a few spots along the chain.
Check often
Check your chain every few hundred kilometres, more often in wet or muddy weather. If it's close to the limit, change it sooner rather than later: a new chain is far cheaper than a new cassette and chainrings. If your new chain skips on the old cassette, bring it in and we'll take a look.
