Parents and carers replacing pedals on a child's bike that has 12 to 16 inch wheels and a 1/2 inch crank thread.
These are kids' platform pedals for bikes with 12 to 16 inch wheels. They have a 1/2 inch axle thread, the size used on the one-piece cranks that most children's bikes come with, and a black moulded plastic body.
The flat platform has raised tread ribs to help small feet stay put, and each pedal carries an amber reflector on its side. They are a simple replacement for worn or lost pedals on a small bike.
Made for small bikes
Sized for children's bikes with 12 to 16 inch wheels.
1/2 inch axle thread
Fits the one-piece cranks used on most kids' bikes. Adult-style three-piece cranks take a larger 9/16 inch thread.
Ribbed platform
Raised tread ribs on the moulded platform help feet stay in place.
Side reflectors
An amber reflector on the side of each pedal adds a little visibility.
Pedals
Great for
Maybe not for
Sized for children's bikes with 12 to 16 inch wheels and a 1/2 inch pedal thread. If you are unsure of your bike's thread, measure the threaded end of the old pedal: about 12.7 mm across is 1/2 inch, and about 14.3 mm is 9/16 inch. One-piece kids' cranks take 1/2 inch, while adult-style three-piece cranks take 9/16 inch.
Left and right are not the same
Pedals are handed. The right pedal tightens clockwise as you would expect, but the left pedal has a reverse thread and tightens anticlockwise. Grease the thread, start each pedal by hand so it goes in straight, then snug it up with a spanner. Forcing a crooked thread strips the crank.
