Trail riders, teenagers on their first proper mountain bike and commuters who want a big, grippy flat pedal at a sensible price.
The JetBlack Thermolite gives your feet a generous 124 x 114 mm platform to stand on, with 18 replaceable pins per pedal to keep shoes planted when the trail gets rough. The black finish suits just about any bike.
The body is fibre-reinforced nylon, which keeps weight down to around 380 g a pair and copes well with the odd rock strike. Underneath it spins on a cro-moly axle with an IGUS DU bushing and sealed bearing for smooth, low-fuss running.
It uses a standard 9/16 inch thread, so it fits almost every adult and larger kids' crank. Worn pins can be swapped out, and JetBlack sells pin sets and a full parts kit, so a good pair can keep going for a long time.

Maybe not for
9/16 inch thread fits most multi-piece cranks on adult and larger kids' bikes. One-piece cranks on some kids' and BMX bikes use 1/2 inch pedals, so check before you buy. The left pedal is reverse threaded.
Fitting tip
Grease the threads and tighten the right pedal clockwise and the left anticlockwise, both towards the front of the bike. Snug them up firmly with a pedal spanner or hex key so they don't creak or work loose.
Keep the grip sharp
Pins wear down, especially if you walk on rock. Swap worn ones with a replacement pin set and the pedals will feel grippy like new.
