Check the size printed on your tyre sidewall reads 20 x 3.00 or 76-406, and that your rim takes a Schrader valve.
Find the cause first
Before fitting a new tube, run your fingers carefully around the inside of the tyre to find any thorn or glass that caused the flat, or the new tube will go down too.
Fit with a little air
Put just enough air in to give the tube shape before fitting. It is less likely to twist or get pinched under the tyre bead.
