Overview

Owners of vintage roadsters, Dutch-style bikes and classic 28 inch bikes that need a replacement tyre.

The 28 x 1 1/2 size is an older imperial size found on vintage roadsters, Dutch-style bikes and many pre-1970s bikes, using a 635 mm rim. It is not the same as a modern 700c tyre, so the right tyre matters.

This Duro tyre has a classic block tread and a wire bead, in black, with the size marked on the sidewall as 40-635. It's a solid, practical choice to get an old bike rolling again.

Who it's for

Great for

  • Vintage and classic roadsters with 635 mm rims
  • Dutch-style city bikes
  • Restoration projects

Maybe not for

  • Modern 700c or 29er wheels (622 mm), which will not fit
  • 28 x 1 3/8 (642 mm) rims

Only fits 635 mm bead seat rims. Check the old tyre's sidewall for 635 before buying. Use a 28 x 1 1/2 tube.

Worth knowing

Not the same as 700c

28 inch is a confusing label. 700c and 29er rims are 622 mm, 28 x 1 3/8 is 642 mm and this 28 x 1 1/2 is 635 mm. Match the three-digit number on your old tyre and you can't go wrong. Bring the wheel in if you're unsure and we'll measure it.
