Anyone servicing their gears or replacing a frayed or rusty shift cable.
A worn or rusty gear cable is one of the most common causes of sluggish, unreliable shifting. This Clarks stainless steel gear inner wire is a simple fix, made from corrosion resistant stainless steel for a longer life than a plain galvanised wire.
It's 1.1 mm in diameter and 2275 mm long, enough for a rear derailleur on road, hybrid and mountain bikes, and it can be trimmed for a front derailleur. Clarks makes its inner wires to suit the major gear systems.

Maybe not for
1.1 mm gear wire, 2275 mm long. Check the nipple suits your shifter before fitting, especially on Campagnolo Ergopower levers. If in doubt, bring the bike in and we'll match the right cable.
Replace the housing too
A new inner wire in old, gritty housing won't shift well for long. If your housing is kinked, cracked or more than a couple of years old, replace it at the same time and fit a crimped end cap to stop the wire fraying.
Pre-stretch before you tune
Once installed, shift through the gears a few times and give the cable a firm pull to bed it in, then fine tune the barrel adjuster. It saves a return trip for readjustment.
