Riders repairing or refreshing a Claris triple road bike whose seat tube is 34.9, 31.8 or 28.6 mm across.
The Shimano Claris FD-R2030-B is a down-swing front derailleur made for 3x8-speed road drivetrains. Shimano designed it for light action and smooth changes between the three chainrings, and it runs with HG 8/7/6-speed chains.
It mounts with a 34.9 mm clamp band, with adapters for 31.8 mm and 28.6 mm seat tubes, so it goes on frames that have no braze-on mount. It is built for a 50T top chainring and a 20T total capacity, so check your crankset against those numbers before you buy.

HYPERGLIDE (HG)
Shimano's cassette and chain design with specially positioned shift ramps and tooth profiles for better chain control while shifting. This derailleur is listed for HG 8/7/6-speed chains.
Great for
Maybe not for
The 34.9 mm band fits as supplied. Use the M size adapter for a 31.8 mm seat tube and the S size adapter for 28.6 mm, and measure your tube first. Shimano lists a 45 mm chain line, a 63 to 66 degree chainstay angle, an 11T top to middle ring difference and a 20T total capacity.
Check it before every ride
Shimano's manual asks you to check before each ride that shifting is smooth, that there is no excess play where the derailleur is mounted, that play in the links has not increased, and that there are no abnormal noises from the derailleur. It warns you not to take the derailleur apart or modify it, because that can cause a sudden fall and serious injury, and to keep the hems of your clothes out of the chain. If the chain rubs and makes noise in a particular gear pairing, Shimano says to shift the rear sprocket one or two steps in the direction its manual shows.
