Riders and mechanics replacing a worn 42 x 52 x 7 mm 45/45° headset bearing.
A notchy or loose headset makes a bike feel vague and nervous. The Black Bearing D16 is a 42 x 52 x 7 mm cartridge headset bearing with 45° / 45° contact angles, a size used in the lower cup of many tapered headsets.
It's made from SAE52100 chrome steel with headset specific seals and quality grease, and is designed as a direct replacement for the original bearing from brands such as FSA, Stronglight, Cane Creek, Acros and Ritchey.
It's sold individually. Many headsets use two different sizes top and bottom, so check both before ordering.

The 45° bearing faces take both the downward and sideways loads a headset sees, giving smooth, precise steering.
Great for
Maybe not for
Match all four numbers from your old bearing: 42 mm inner, 52 mm outer, 7 mm tall, and 45° on both faces. Sold as a single bearing, so if your top bearing is also worn, check its size separately.
Measure, don't guess
Headset bearings that look the same can differ by the angle alone. Read the markings on the old bearing or measure it with vernier callipers before ordering.
Grease the seats
Clean the cups and crown race and add a thin layer of grease where the bearing sits. It keeps water out and stops creaks.
