Overview

E-bike owners and mechanics servicing the drivetrain on Bosch mid-drive motors.

The front sprocket on a Bosch mid-drive e-bike is held on by a lockring that ordinary chainring tools won't fit. The BBB LockOut BTL-128E is made for exactly that job, removing and refitting the lockring so you can swap a worn sprocket.

The handle is extra long for more leverage on a tight lockring, and the Kraton grip gives a firm, comfortable hold.

It's a smart tool for anyone who looks after their own e-bike drivetrain, as e-bike sprockets and chains wear faster than on a regular bike.

Who it's for

Great for

  • Replacing a worn front sprocket on a Bosch e-bike
  • E-bike workshops
  • Home mechanics with a Bosch equipped e-bike

Maybe not for

  • Shimano, Yamaha, Brose or other e-bike motors
  • Standard bottom brackets or cassettes

For Bosch mid-drive motors that use a lockring to hold the sprocket. The crank arm needs to come off first. Check your Bosch motor generation if you're unsure; we can confirm fit.

Worth knowing

Crank off first

Remove the non-drive crank arm and the drive-side crank first to reach the lockring. Take a photo of the spacers before you pull anything apart.

Replace chain and sprocket together

E-bike drivetrains wear quickly. If the sprocket is hooked or the chain is stretched, replace both at the same time so the new parts mesh properly.
