The Shimano PD-RS500 uses Shimano's SPD-SL three-bolt road cleat, the same system found on its race pedals. Shimano set the spring tension lighter and gave it a larger entry target, so it's easy to find the pedal and clip in at the lights.
An extra-wide platform spreads your pedalling effort, and a stainless steel body plate protects the pedal from cleat wear. Yellow SM-SH11 cleats with a few degrees of float come in the box.
Note these are SPD-SL road pedals, not the two-bolt SPD mountain system. You'll need road shoes with a three-bolt pattern.
