The Schwalbe Marathon Plus is the tyre we reach for when a rider tells us they are sick of punctures. Under the tread sits SmartGuard, a 5 mm thick belt of elastic rubber that shrugs off glass, flints, wire and even drawing pins, the everyday rubbish that ends a commute early.
This is the 26 x 1.50 (40-559) size with a wire bead and Schwalbe's ADDIX compound. It weighs 870 g, is rated E-25 for e-bikes, and has a reflective stripe on both sidewalls so you are easier to see from the side after dark. The sidewall is also built to resist cracking for longer if you run it a little soft.
It is heavier than a normal touring tyre and the ride is firmer, but for commuters, tourers, shopping bikes and e-bikes the trade is well worth it. No tyre can promise you will never get a flat, but this is the best defence there is.
