The Crankbrothers Eggbeater 1 is the entry point to one of the most recognisable pedals in mountain biking. Its spring-and-wing design gives you four sides to clip into, and because there's barely any body to it, mud and grit simply fall through instead of clogging the mechanism.
This version uses stamped steel wings on a forged chromoly spindle, running on an Igus inner bearing and an Enduro outer cartridge bearing behind a double seal. It weighs 290 g per pair and can be serviced with Crankbrothers refresh kits when the time comes.
It ships with Easy Release cleats, which give 6° of float and need just 10° of twist to unclip. That makes it a friendly first clip-in pedal, and you can swap to Standard Release cleats later if you want a firmer hold.
