Cranks on square taper, ISIS Drive and Shimano Octalink bottom brackets are pressed onto the spindle, and they don't come off with a hex key alone. The BBB PowerPull threads into the crank arm and pushes against the spindle to draw the arm off evenly.
A removable cap lets one tool do all three jobs. With the cap off it bears on a square taper spindle, and with the cap fitted it bears on the wider ISIS and Octalink spindles.
